Harshavardhan Period In Haryana

Pushyabhuti (Vardhana) Dynasty

  • The founder of Pushyabhuti dynasty or Vardhana dynasty was Pushyabhuti, whose capital was Thaneshwar (Thanesar), Kurukshetra.
  • Pushyabhuti constructed the Sthaneshwar (Thaneshwar) temple and it was renovated by Maratha Sadashiv Rai. Thaneshwar is also known as the Island of the Mughals.
  • Pushyabhuti was conferred with the title Parammaheshwar. There were six rulers of Haryana under Pushyabhuti Dynasty, whose capital was Sthaneshwar (Thaneshwar).
  • Some main rulers of this dynasty were as follows:

    Naravardhana (505 - 525 AD)

  • During the downfall of Gupta period, Naravardhana established his power in Thanesar Pratigana (Pargana). At this time this area was part of Shrikanth Janapada. Naravardhana is called Maharaj in the inscriptions.
  • Rajyavardhana I (525 - 550 AD)

  • He was a worshiper (the divine devotee) of the Sun. His wife or P'atrani was named Apsara Devi. He assumed the title of Maharaja.
